They Blog Too: A Challenge

27 Feb

I have really enjoyed the blog challenges that Kristen, Katie, and I have posed to each other. And this might be one of my favorites. Of course, it’s not much of a challenge either.

Today, we’re going to have a little lovefest. I’m going to give you a glimpse of Katie and Kristen, through my eyes. So often we rush through days, sometimes struggling, sometimes stressed, and often times we get this single view of ourselves that may not be so positive. But there are people who love us and those people see us so differently, and we rarely know what it is they see when they look at us. So that’s what this challenge is about. To articulate how we see each other.

First up: Kristen…

Kristen has been my best friend for more years than not. And our friendship has changed, much as we have. We’ve grown up and instead of growing apart our friendship grew with us, and I’m so happy about that. Kristen is my friend that has it together. Now, we all know no one is perfect and has it together 100% of the time. But Kristen is one of those people who when she doesn’t have it completely together, she’s got a plan for getting it there, even if the plan is to develop a plan. That’s one of the reasons I admire her, but not necessarily the reason she’s my bestest.

Kristen is such a loyal friend. Sometimes I can almost feel the thoughtfulness and strength that she approaches me with. Life downright sucks sometimes and Kristen is the perfect person to have both in the good times and in the bad. She’s also got this funny, quirkiness that is so rare these days. I mean, a friend you can listen to Disney tunes with while cooking? Yes, please.

Thanks to the Interwebs Kristen and I have been able to keep in much closer touch in recent years. But no matter, what, I know she will always be the friend than I can reach out to and we’ll pick up right where we left off.

And Katie…

Katie and I are fast track friends. We haven’t known each other that long, but I she is absolutely someone I could sit on the couch with drinking wine and talking well into the night, actually I think we’ve done this on more than one occasion. One thing I love about Katie is her hair. She has amazing hair. It’s thick and shiny and gorgeous and you just want to run your fingers through it, or maybe make a wig out of it. But, alas… I digress.

Katie oozes awesomeness. I mean, the girl’s got style. And not just like fashion style, but life style. She’s the cool kid you want to sit next to in art class and swap food with at the lunch table. Katie is the perfect blend of laid-back-country and urban-artsy and everything in between. She is who she is in the most honest way and I love that about her. It take strength and passion to stand up for who you are and she totally does that.

I so enjoy road trips with Katie and the dinners and long talks over wine. Kristen gets massive points for introducing us. I am so thankful to be friends with Katie.

Holy Toledo, Batman! It’s April!

3 Apr

I am not quite sure where March went, but hey, that’s the story of our lives right? Now, while the month may have not looked great on paper, I’m pretty pleased with how it all went down. Here’s a quick recap:

  • The promotion I alluded to went into affect. This is really beyond exciting.
  • I made some progress on my workout goal (#58) by trying Zumba.
  • My sister shaved her head to raise money and awareness for children’s cancer research. I am so honored that I could be a part of that experience.
  • I made some quiet progress on my goal to take classes to forward my career (#40) by submitting grad school applications.
  • Goal #28 is in sight. I registered for the Police Week 5K in Washington, D.C. in May.

In other news, spring arrived! I am so excited for the blooming flowers, warmer temperatures, and just spring in general!

As usual, I have high hopes for the upcoming month. There is a lot to look forward to both in terms of the 101, and just in life. Here is a rundown of what I’m hoping to get into for the 101 in April:

  • While the first go was not a complete success, I’m going to take another shot at no-complaining (#47).
  • The promotion is super amazing. But, I have found that my working routine may be borderline craziness, and perhaps not even the most productive that it could be. So I am going to do some research and starting developing an effective work break (#50).
  • I’m going to work on writing letters (#71), I’ve got one ready for the mailbox now!

There are some other things I am going to try to tackle in April, but we will see how it goes. As far as life goes, here are some things I’m looking forward to:

  • Shopping trip with the girls. Which is sure to have some 101 repercussions 🙂
  • A couple work trips, including one to San Diego!
  • Decorating my new office.
  • Making my life a little more green. This isn’t something I focused on when developing my 101 but I’m finding more and more that this is something I really want to work on.

So, that’s the plan for April. Can’t wait to see what it has in store for all of us!
